“As Of Now, There’s Too Much Quantity And Not Enough Quality” – Brad Hogg On Rise Of T20 Leagues Around The World

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg felt that the IPL franchises investing in leagues around the world will leave the fans confused. Additionally, the emergence of such leagues has also reduced the quality of cricket going around, as per Hogg.

With the introduction of CSA’s and UAE’s new T20 leagues, players have more options. However, the international stars aren’t committing to any one league either, skipping around and making themselves available around the world.

I think it’s going to displace the marketplace in certain phases where you see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchises have three different teams around the globe.

You think, which one should I support? Do I support my IPL team or am I following all of them? And who are the players playing for these franchises? You lose track of who actually is in your franchise,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“They are not committing to a full season in some of these tournaments” – Brad Hogg

Talking about the lack of commitment, Hogg said it is worrisome if the players don’t play a single tournament in its entirety. This will lead to a lack of bilateral ODI series around the world with the ICC left with no choice but to scrap the format.

What I don’t like about all these tournaments coming up around the globe and competing at the same time is that you are seeing some England players putting their name in for the BBL, play half the tournament, then go over to the CSA and finish off there. They are not committing to a full season in some of these tournaments. It’s a big worry.”

Do they (ICC) get rid of one-day international cricket? I think that is getting closer to execution than not. T20 cricket, the bilateral series’ being played around the world, I think we’ve got to get rid of them and play just T20 World Cups. Then, we can play more T20 competitions around the world. We’ve got to keep Test cricket. As of now, there is too much quantity and not enough quality,” he added.
